Surfing is definitely inseparable from surfboards. I mentioned that different surfboards must be selected for different surfing activities when talking about surfing equipment. In terms of surfing alone, surfboards are generally divided into the following categories:

Classification of surfboards

Soft board: The surfboard for beginners is designed as a simple and suitable soft board with interest for everyone. It is easier to paddle with large draft capacity. The ordinary wave board design can provide a stable surface for novices, so that they can jump onto the board with confidence. This kind of board is generally made of durable and soft materials. It is a perfect choice for novices. They can quickly learn basic surfing skills and upgrade to the intermediate level.

Short board (also known as small board): The length is between 5 '9 and 6' 8. It is typically characterized by a thin, long and tapered plate head, which is sharp and triangular, small in size and buoyancy, and requires waves with enough thrust and good shape to play happily. The short board belongs to the skill board. It can turn flexibly and perform fancy movements. However, it is difficult to maintain stability because of its small size. Generally, the short board has 3-5 rudders (push type or excellent type), suitable for experienced ronics.

Long board: the length is between 8 feet 6 and 11 feet, the head is semicircular, the size is long, usually only has a rudder, the board is wider than the force, and the tail is slightly tapered. Long board has large buoyancy, slow speed, and can also play in small waves. It is suitable for summer waves and beginners to practice.

Egg board (EGG): 6 feet to 8 feet 5 in length, short and wide, round head. It is generally used in small surfing. This kind of board is mainly used for entertainment, not for surfing performance and skills. It is also a good choice for beginners, because its width is quite stable and it is particularly easy to use on small waves.

The Gun (also known as gun plate): It is close to the long plate in length, but the head is pointed and the tail is pointed, and the speed is the fastest. The shape is similar to the short board but larger than it. The increased length makes it easy to paddle faster in big waves. The big wave board is used to wash 10 to 30 feet of big waves. It is rarely used in moderate sea conditions. Only in the big wave zone or before and after the typhoon can it show its power.

The Fish: It looks like a fish, between 5 '6 and 6' 11 in length. Basically, it is also a kind of short board. The board is usually wider and thicker than the short board. This type of plate has a dovetail (sometimes used on other types of plates), and is a double rudder. Because the buoyancy of the fishboard is slightly greater, it will perform better than the short board when the waves are small.

Entertainment board (Funshape/Minitank/Mini Mal, also known as fun board, small long board or Mini Mali cloth board): this board has been reduced in size based on the shape of traditional long board in recent years. As the name implies, this kind of board looks like a long board, but the length is between 7 feet and 8 feet. This kind of board is probably the same as the long board, which has only one rudder, and may also have three rudders (propulsion type). Because the size is reduced, the surfer moves faster in the water. In this way, the stability and sculling are worse. But it also has the advantage of long boards. It can play with large buoyancy and small waves, but it is slightly small and does not lose its activity in action.
