Classification of common surfboards
Foam board
7-9 feet in length; The width is 19-20 inches; The thickness is 2-3 inches. It is made of wood wrapped with foam, also called teaching board and soft board (other boards are hard boards). This board is very wide and thick with great buoyancy, which allows beginners to obtain the maximum stability of boards of the same size in the water so that they can easily catch waves and not easily hit themselves.
Long plate
It is 8-10 feet long and is generally single fin. The length of the long board provides great stability and displacement (buoyancy). Compared with the short board, the long board is much easier in paddling, which is very suitable for beginners to practice grasping waves. But it doesn't mean that only beginners can play the long board. The advanced playing method of the long board is different from the short board. You can practice walking on the board, 360 turns and other movements, which is different from the short board. There are also very narrow and thin small buoyant long boards for competitions.
medium plate
It is 6-8-5 in length and usually has three tail fins. Like its name, FUNBOARD is a board that can make the beginners and intermediate surfers feel more fun. The middle board is between the long board and the short board. The middle board gives consideration to both stability and flexibility. It is more difficult to paddle and catch the waves than the long board, but it is more flexible after the waves fall. It is very suitable for students who have played the long board for a period of time to transition and adapt to the short board.
Short board
It is 5-7 feet long and has three tail fins. Shorter length means less buoyancy and difficulty in catching waves. Therefore, the short board can be started and adjusted more quickly, and can dive over. After falling into the waves, it can be very flexible to circle, turn, splash, or even fly 360 degrees on the wave wall. A surfer who needs solid basic skills in rowing and has deep surfing experience.
Fish plate
It is also a kind of short board, because the tail is slit like a fish tail, so it is called a fish board. It is shorter and fatter than many short boards, but the tail of the board with slits is more flexible than that of ordinary short boards. Compared with ordinary short boards, it is more moderate in the trade-off between the difficulty of catching waves and the flexibility of going down. Suitable for medium and small wave conditions.
Gun plate
The plate is narrow and sharp, which increases the length and buoyancy on the basis of retaining the short plate performance. It is suitable for experienced surfers specializing in big waves. The gun board allows them to have a faster stroke speed in the big waves to catch the waves, which ensures the flexibility of the wave and also has enough stability to control the big waves.
